Shades of Winter & Shades of Men
Posted on 01 December 2013
It’s that time of the year again, when the red, blues, browns and oranges take the front seat in your wardrobe. This season, we take away the best winter fashion colors from the best fashion weeks around the world!
Bold Blues- Ink, cobalt, navy and teal blues is gaining importance. Dress shirts or tees, bottom-wear or outerwear, go true blue this winter
Browns- Being warm and neutral, it joins the bandwagon of basic fashion colors of black, white and grey.
Camel- An extension of brown, this color has evolved into cappuccino and creamy, lighter hues.
Yellows- The hues are mellowed than ever and softer tones can bring a hint of color to monotonous winter fashion.
Reds- Reds are more two toned with orange tints like coral and black tints like claret.
The traditional winter colors like blacks, whites and maroons are more mid-toned this season, so you will see more grays, charcoal, ivories and berry colors.
Different Shades for Different Men
Thomas Jefferson(in case you don't know who this is, run a Google on this founding father of the United States) had claimed that “all men were created equal”. If that be the case, then all the garment makers of the world are in the wrong job. So, NO, that’s not the case. There are slim men and heavyset men, stout men and tall men. So, my dear mates be color conscious, let your clothes accentuate your God gifted stature.
If you have a slim and lean structure, avoid dark, solid colors and vertical stripes. Rather, wear lighter and brighter shades like camel, cappuccino, classic blue, yellow. Break down the shades you wear.
With a heavyset body, it’s better if you avoid lighter shades and wear darker ones like black, brown, navy, maroon, claret and burgundy. Avoid horizontal stripes and thicker fabrics
If you are gifted with a towering height, you are in a kind of safe zone to don colors you want, yet, avoid wearing tops and bottoms of the same shade, or lighter shades. Color blocking can be your style statement. Navy with beige, black and beige can be your color labels. Play with checks and horizontal stripes.
In case you are not blessed with height, don’t panic mate, there’s a style solution for every man. Wear lighter shades like beige, peach, sky blue if you are slim, darker ones like brown, black etc if you are not. Keep your style focus on monochromes, vertical stripes and be careful about prints (unless you are vacationing in Goa and you are living out of a Hawaiian shirt!).
White and black are the only colors you can fearlessly explore, irrespective of your body structure.
All said and done, colors are mere style catalysts but confidence and panache, my mates, are the key elements to an amazing ensemble! So go out there, enjoy the season and may this winter find you in great style!
